While Tours will be departing from Puerto Lopez’s Tourist Dock, you can simply Book a trip to Isla de la Plata from Olón or Montañita area by one of the local tour agencies, who will pick you up and drop you off and also bring you back again.

Typically, the trip leaves around 8.30am and will be back in Olón/Montañita before 6pm. A small sandwich is provided as lunch, but if you’re a big eater bring some of your own. Same goes for snorkels and life vests, but if you want flippers (to swim with the Giant Sea Turtles), you have to bring your own. Equipment is very basic and quiet a lot of people can be fitted on a boat.

Prices should be between 30 and 75$ per person, depending on the tour agency and if transport is included from Olón/Montañita to Puerto Lopez.

On the island itself, there are 2 routes. A long one and a shorter one. If you have preferences, make sure to indicate them as early as possible, as the group will be split into 2: one tour guide for each group (Government regulated).

Don’t forget Sunscreen, hat, etc. It does not normally rain on the island. Best time to visit is during the Whale season, since they will be spotted on the trip there! (June-Oct)
